Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Amendment Act of 1998 prohibits the Federal government from procuring, developing, maintaining, or using Electronic & Information Technology (EIT) that is inaccessible to people with disabilities. This applies to Federal web sites, telecommunication products, software, hardware, office equipment products, and information kiosks. This is an enforceable procurement policy, not a guideline. The law has become active since June 25, 2001.
